a. Urban graffiti on the Bus-stop_ Project 1: Stikers
Idea
This is simple project to using one of way of general graffiti way to attach stickers to cosmetic campaigns that with a beautiful model face in the public place as like bus stop. The stickers are about the eyes, the nose, the lips which are the most popular parts for the surgery belong to people’s interest. And the stickers are organized with general Asian facial regions or the example of false surgery results. The cosmetic industry normally makes their advertisements with models who have flawless skin and beautiful faces, which help them to create desirable brand images. Their ads are placed on the large advertisement board around bus stops or subway stations, which are open-space. More exposure to such ads may convice people that their faces look different from those models in the ads, and they may need to consider wanting to have similar faces, which are told by beauty companies to be beautiful. Conceptually this project delivered a public message that the models’ faces are not the reality of beauty.

b. Urban graffiti at the Bus-stop _Project 2 : Distorting Mirror
Idea
The main idea of Distorting Mirror is along the same line with the first project of urban graffiti (Stickers), but there are a few differences. Distorting Mirror project has an interactive effect through technical methods, such as the solenoid, mirror paper, remote control, battery and cable. Distorting Mirror has a few of solenoids in its back side. When people try to close with this mirror for reflecting their appearance,
it randomly pushes the mirror paper through remote controlling. Through this process, the mirror paper starts to distort the reflected image and it makes unexpectedly new appearance of people in front of the mirror. People get excited by the distorted image, and may learn the original idea of this study that it is possible to distort their appearances without any surgery.

Location
A bus stop was selected randomly in front of the Convention and Exhibition(COEX) Center of Seoul. (Samsung-Dong, Gangnam-Gu,Seoul,Korea)

One of Soomi’s projects, LED Eyelash is selected by the jurys of PRIX ARS ELECTRONICA as one of HONORARY MENTIONS in Interactive Art Department for this year.
This yea's ARS ELETRONICA Fstival was sucessfully ran out from 4th to 9th of September 2008. And Soomi's LED Eyelash is currently presenting still in OK Center for Contemporary Art untill 12th of October 2008.

Many of the art works in competition for the Interactive Art awards fell into well-established categories such as interactive sound, reactive sculptures or projection-based pieces in public space. But Soomi Park's LED Eyelash is in a category of its own-glittering, yet profound, clumsy yet extraordinarily beautiful and strange, and dealing with important issues of gender and identity with a disarming and charming sens of playfulness. LED Eyelash refues to the obsession among Korean women for big eyes, and how the often leads to plastic surgery to make eyes rounder and less Asiatic. Soomi Park proposes a technological solution in which the eyelashes are complemented with reactive LEDs that flash whenver the user blinks or moves his or her pupils. The result is absurd yet engaging, and it succeeds in communicating a serious idea in a way that is both delicate and perverse.(via CyberArts 2008)

This year's ARS ELECTRONICA Festival was under the banner of “A NEW CULTURAL ECONOMY – The Limits of Intellectual Property” aims to co-author the preamble to a new knowledge-based society. What’s at stake: the interplay of freedom of information and copyright protection, big profit-making opportunities and the vision of an open knowledge-based society. And this is also a matter of practical, workable regulations governing this new reality, rules whose formulation ought not to be left up to lawyers and MBAs alone.
Ars Electronica invited artists, network nomads, theoreticians, technologists and legal scholars from all over the world to convene in Linz. Their artistic and scholarly investigations in the form of symposia, exhibitions, performances and interventions transcended the confines of conventional conference spaces and cultural venues and pervade the entire city. Jun.2008 Kunsthalle by Platoon_ Exhibition

Two of Soomi’s projects, Digital Veil and LED Eyelash, are currently introduced in the pilot exhibition at Kunsthalle in Seoul, Korea.

Kunsthalle Seoul is an exhibition place planned by Platoon, an organization for cultural development based on Berlin, Germany. This exhibition is a preview of Kunsthalle's official opening in Octorber and it is on until this July from 13 June. It introucess various artists' artworks include Soomi's.

Kunsthalle Seoul will be complete aroud October, 2008.

If you have a chance to visit the Dosan Intersection (Sinsa-dong, Seoul, Korea_here is a map ), visit Kunsthalle and this exquisite exhibition.

Digital Veil is a project that started from my pursuit for new types of emotional design. Digital Veil is a result of my artistic investigation for the emotional source that drives people to be obsessed with plastic surgery around the world.

Throughout human history, people have always wanted to look more attractive. They played with fashion and makeup in order to create better looks conventionally. On top of this, the new wave of plastic surgery attracts those who always look for better and newer ways to satisfy their deep emotions and pursuit for aesthetics. Our reality is that people are choosing to have plastic surgeries because they want to create unexpectedness, more dramatic and gratifying looks as results. As plastic surgery became cheaper and its skills advanced to be more precise, people now take it for granted. From this experience of living within the era when having a surgery to look more beautiful, I started to look for alternative ways to help people to feel, look, and become more beautiful. I found a potential for my answer in the new creative media fashion. I believe that with its unlimited ways to manipulate how people view the world, or vice versa, the new interactive can suggest a new solution for meeting people’s needs for aesthetics.

Digital Veil provides a simple solution for better look, because it is easy to utilize. An LCD panel without its backlight is linked to a computer, which makes it easy and practical for people to enjoy its powerful effect. They can mix and match images they want from the computer, and project them with Digital Veil on their face. Digital Veil creates the desired look between the wearer’s face and the LCD. The LCD also has black and white animation feature, which makes Digital Veil more versatile. Speakers and a volume control are attached to Digital Veil, which adds to its versatility and attractiveness.
